The plant pathogen Streptomyces scabies 87-22 has a functional pyochelin biosynthetic pathway that is regulated by TetR- and AfsR-family proteins.
Siderophores are high-affinity iron-chelating compounds produced by bacteria for iron uptake that can act as important virulence determinants for both plant and animal pathogens. Genome sequencing of the plant pathogen Streptomyces scabies 87-22 revealed the presence of a putative pyochelin biosynthetic gene cluster (PBGC). Liquid chromatography (LC)-MS analyses of culture supernatants of S. sc...
متن کاملHopanoids are not essential for growth of Streptomyces scabies 87-22.
Hopanoids are triterpenoic, pentacyclic compounds that are structurally similar to sterols, which are required for normal cell function in eukaryotes. Hopanoids are thought to be an important component of bacterial cell membranes because they control membrane fluidity and diminish passive diffusion of ions, and a few taxons modulate their hopanoid content in response to environmental stimuli. H...
متن کاملSynthesis of (+)-coronafacic acid.
An enantioselective synthesis of (+)-coronafacic acid has been achieved. Rhodium-catalyzed cyclization of an alpha-diazoester provided the intermediate cyclopentanone in high enantiomeric purity. Subsequent Fe-mediated cyclocarbonylation of a derived alkenyl cyclopropane gave a bicyclic enone that then was hydrogenated and carried on to the natural product.
متن کاملValinomycin Biosynthetic Gene Cluster in Streptomyces: Conservation, Ecology and Evolution
Many Streptomyces strains are known to produce valinomycin (VLM) antibiotic and the VLM biosynthetic gene cluster (vlm) has been characterized in two independent isolates. Here we report the phylogenetic relationships of these strains using both parsimony and likelihood methods, and discuss whether the vlm gene cluster shows evidence of horizontal transmission common in natural product biosynth...
متن کاملThe kanamycin biosynthetic gene cluster from Streptomyces kanamyceticus.
Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Streptomyces kanamyceticus1). Although it possesses broad range antibacterial activity, bacteria resistant to this antibiotic readily appear, and therefore its clinical use has been restricted to tuberculosis. Resistant bacteria inactivate kanamycin by modifying its specific aminoor hydroxygroup using acetyltransferase, phosphotransferase an...
